Loving Love

Lately, I’ve found myself thinking about love a lot more than ever and who can blame me though? Love is in the air, and I think you would agree with me on that. It’s almost February, the month of love; red flowers, chocolates, teddy bears, perfumes and all kinds of red decors. In fact, my social media pages have been flooded with all kinds of Valentines gift packages and so I am really not surprised about how much I’ve been thinking about love lately.

Now, love is such a sweet and wonderful feeling that even thinking about it makes you feel good. I absolutely love love for that. The feel-good feeling you get in your stomach, the happiness you feel, the warmth, and the joy that wraps around in a silk caress like the tinkling sounds from a wind chime. Yes, love is so beautiful. And thinking about it has made my heart flutter and also lightweight.

In thinking about love though, I realized that the person that comes to my head first (on many occasions) is Love himself – the maker of love who exists as love, God. It really bursts my head but then I welcome it because the thoughts of loving God and loving him right is something that I’ve been pondering on a lot. So when I see people fall in love and express their love (whether in movies or in real life), I want it too but I want to first experience it with God. It amazes me that even when I’m watching my favorite things to watch (K-dramas of course), I think about love in the light of my relationship with God. That’s not to say that I don’t think of love in terms of human relationships, certainly not. I mean, it is only natural that I do. Tell me, who doesn’t want a “God When?” type of love for themselves?

Generally though, when I think of love, I have come to a little understanding that the best way to show your love to the other person – no matter the relationship – is to love them the way they want to be loved not how you think is best for them to be loved. So imagine the revelational moment I had one Sunday afternoon as I sat down in my baptismal class lecture and my teacher mentioned the Holy Spirit and love languages in the same sentence. I was mind-blown! Like, yes!! This is what I’ve been looking for, the answer to my question of how to love God the way He wants and ought to be loved. Like, how did I not think about that?! I realized that just as we human beings have our love languages, surely God the author of love would have His too. And the Psalmist, David, hacked this fact and gave us a blueprint for loving God when he said in Psalm 71:8 (NLT) that, “That is why I can never stop praising you; I declare your glory all day long.” If that is not Words of Affirmation going on there, then I don’t know what it is. In praising God, you’re affirming His person, affirming and acknowledging what he has done for you and so on. Psalm 63:4 (NLT) says, “I will praise you as long as I live, lifting up my hands to you in prayer.” If you read all the way to verse 8 you will see how David wooed God with word’s of affirmations; then tell me how God wouldn’t have felt loved. No wonder the bible record’s that David is a man after God’s heart.

Oh, I could go on and on about this. The light I received from just hearing the Holy Spirit and love languages in the same sentence! A real eye opener on love and loving God. I can tell you boldly that Quality Time is also at the top of God’s love languages, if it isn’t the first. No wonder He gave us the Holy Spirit that will always be with us and never leave us. That is just how close and near to us God want’s to be, enjoying quality time together. Oh I really could go on and on, but I will stop here today.

I believe that many of us are not new to the love language bit, but just in case you are, have a peep on what it is below.

Hey juicy one, funny how my love language is also quality time.
I so can’t stand it when you claim to love me and yet can’t give me the time I need. God’s love is ever present and that’s why I would believe truly that his top love language is quality time he shows us he loves us by giving us the holy spirit to give us easy access. ❤ and light dear, thanks for this piece.

This is really good, just reminds me of the fact the GOD has said he has always loved us first and also points to the fact there is nothing we can do that is unforgivable, Love is forgiveness❤️❤️

I resonate deeply with this message. I’ve been thinking a lot about romantic love lately but God keeps reminding me that I need to learn love from him first! It just dawned on me that God wants me to explore his love languages! I mean how else do you show someone you love them? Thanks for this awesome post.
