Fading Beauty

She was the first to arrive on the scene; a goddess with alluring beauty. Her beauty, charm and ability to recreate was at the core of her existence. Her beauty was many things; calming, colorful, serene, lustrous and enchanting. She moved as one with the earth, creating and recreating. The earth sighed with peace at night, it’s mountains, hills and nocturnal creatures came out to dance and worship her in the Silverlight of the moon.

The humans arrived on the scene much later, and they also worshipped her — the Earth Goddess they called her. It did not take long for the humans to fall astray into their greed. Little by little many began to lust after her riches and splendor, and soon, they had built weapons to destroy her.

They started by going after the ones she loved; her precious creatures, the mountains, her treasures in the ocean, her trees and every other thing she possessed.

The humans tortured her in their greed and made her a prisoner. She died a little with every wild animal they butchered, every tree they cut down, every mountain they leveled, and every forest that was set ablaze. They broke her into bits until she was too weak to revive and save herself.

Now the goddess searches at night for a hero, her knight in shinny armor, to come save her from the reckless ways of the humans and the immense pain they have brought upon her. Maybe if the humans were a little kind, if they didn’t start unnecessary bush fires or took precautions when felling trees, if they cared for her seas and preserved the rest of her wildlife. Maybe then she could revive herself again and be the beauty she once was.

The End.

Happy Earth Day 🌎 people! Let’s do our best, even in the littlest way possible, to promote a green and sustainable environment.
